Miley Cyrus breaks Spotify record with song attacking her ex

There’s no doubt that Miley Cyrus’ new song “Flowers” is a real hit. The singer just broke the record for the most streamed song on Spotify in a week, ever. The track hit 100 million streams on Thursday (1/19).

Before Miley, the record belonged to the group BTS, who reached 100 million in eight days with their hit “Butter”.

‘Flowers’ also dethroned Adele’s old records, with ‘Easy on Me’ and even numbers from Taylor Swift’s recent ‘Anti-Hero’.

The song is a shower of suggestions for actor Liam Hemsworth, who has had a nearly decade-long relationship with the artist. In the lyrics of the song, Miley talks about her troubled relationship, which began on the set of the film “The Last Song”.

In the text, Miley responds to the song “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars, which would have been dedicated by the actor to Miley during the wedding ceremony: “I can buy myself some flowers. I can hold my hand. Talk to me anyway for hours. I can love myself better than you,” the singer says in the song’s lyrics.

The hit is part of the artist’s new album, “Endless Summer Vacation”, which will be released on March 10th.

Success comes at a good time for the artist. In 2023, Miley would complete a decade without a song topping the music charts. Her first (and only) number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 was 2013’s “Wrecking Ball.”
