Alec Baldwin, 64, was convicted by Santa Fe County Attorney Mary Carmack-Oltvis in the manslaughter case of cameraman Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust. According to court documents, the actor committed criminal negligence while handling firearms. According to the investigator, Baldwin should have taken precautions and made sure in advance that the revolver was not loaded with real cartridges.

This reckless departure from known standards, practices and protocol led directly to the fatal shooting. Baldwin acted with willful disregard for the safety of others and thus endangered colleagues, the prosecutor said in a statement.

Preliminary hearings on the case will begin within the next 60 days. If convicted, Baldwin faces up to six months in prison, with the potential to extend the sentence to five years. The same punishment awaits props director Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was responsible for the weapons used on the set of Rust.

The accident on the set of Rust happened on October 21, 2021. On set, Alec Baldwin fired his prop revolver, which for some reason was loaded with live ammunition. As a result, cameraman Galina Hutchins died, and the director of the tape, Joel Souza, was also injured. Despite this, in some interviews, Baldwin stated that he did not pull the trigger. The fact that the actor will be prosecuted under a criminal article for murder became known a week ago.
