Nancy Pelosi’s suitcase: what politics took with her on the plane, followed by the whole world

It looks like it’s time to add a new paragraph to the Black Tuesday wiki article. Or two, or three – we’re sure the editors have something to say. Who would have thought that a single flight from Malaysia to Taiwan would be such an exciting action?..

If you haven’t seen any of the Nancy Pelosi airplane memes yet, are you sure you woke up on planet Earth this morning? Social networks in all languages of the world discuss the flight SPAR19, which carried in unison the speaker of the American House of Representatives. There are at least a dozen such flights with the state’s first people on board each day, but at least 300,000 people have flown this particular route. And not just out of curiosity: sitting on pins and needles, everyone was waiting for the flight to end in a landing or turn into a disaster.

We will not go into an in-depth analysis of the political situation yet – emotions are still overflowing. In this context, the landing of Nancy’s plane even looked funny: while the earthlings stared convulsively at the news feed, Pelosi calmly waved at the reporters, standing on the catwalk in her pale pink suit. Meanwhile, her suitcase with the same pink costumes, huge beads and medical masks to match the outfits was shipped off the plane.

She may not admit it, but Nancy Pelosi is a fashion icon. The wording is almost ingenious: maybe the Speaker of the House of Representatives doesn’t pretend to be a style icon, but she is considered one. Agree, huge pearls and fuchsia “twos”, suspiciously reminiscent of the images of Dolores Umbridge from “Harry Potter”, can hardly be called exemplary. But they make sense – which is why Nancy packs them for political visits. And that’s why she flew to Taiwan in the most revealing outfit.

Pink should not be seen as a symbol of daydreaming or weakness – by no means! Once upon a time, it was usually an agender shade that could be easily worn by both men (even more so) and women. Nowadays, pink has not become an indicator of “weakness” – on the contrary, it warns rather than a little more, and it will turn red, aggressive, powerful, formidable. It was this message, according to the stylists, that Pelosi brought with her.

And what about pearls and rich colors? Nancy lives in her big pearl necklace for a reason: it emphasizes every time that she is a woman and an old schooler. The politician in 2007 became the first female speaker of the lower house of Congress – before her, this post was held only by men.

Therefore, it is important for Nancy to focus each time on the fact that she has her own opinion on each question, and rather sharp and, perhaps, contrasting – like her images. So what’s in Pelosi’s briefcase isn’t just old-fashioned costumes and retro accessories, but densely packed soft power – fashion.
