Actress Jamie Lynn Spears has dismissed long-standing rumors that her Nickelodeon television show Zoey 101 was canceled because she became pregnant at age 16.

Speaking on the August 18 episode of the Momarchy podcast, the 35-year-old actress addressed the common belief that her teen pregnancy with daughter Maddie caused the series to end.

"If we're talking about a concrete misconception, it would be that everybody thinks Zoey ended because I got pregnant," Spears said during the interview. "And that is not true."

Spears clarified that production on the fourth and final season of Zoey 101, which ran from 2004 to 2008, had already been completed before she got pregnant with Maddie, whom she shares with former partner Casey Aldridge.

Although filming wrapped prior to her pregnancy, the final season did not air until May 2008, several months after Spears announced she was expecting. She subsequently gave birth to Maddie in June 2008.

Production Timeline and Misconceptions
Spears explained that public confusion stems from a lack of understanding regarding television production schedules in the entertainment industry.

"That's how it is in entertainment. A lot of people who aren't in the business don't understand," Spears said. "They think we shoot it, it comes out. No, you shoot it and it comes out maybe the next year or something."

She emphasized that the show was fully wrapped regardless of her personal life. "That's where people are confused," she added. "But we were wrapped, we were always wrapped, and there was never going to be another season."

Spears stressed that her daughter should not be blamed for the cancellation. "My beautiful Maddie is not the reason the show ended," she said with a smile.

Maddie, who recently graduated from high school and is now 18 years old, still faces social media comments blaming her for the end of the series. Spears revealed that top comments on Maddie's TikTok account regularly state, "You're the reason Zoey's over!"

"We laugh about it. You got to laugh at these things, because it's pretty funny some of the things they say to her," Spears said. "But it's just not the truth."

Zoey 102 Reunion and Family Cameos
In 2023, Spears reprised her role as Zoey Brooks in the follow-up television movie Zoey 102.

The film reunited her with former costars Erin Sanders, Sean Flynn, Matthew Underwood, Christopher Massey, Abby Wilde, and Jack Salvatore.

The project also featured cameo appearances from both of Spears' daughters, Maddie and eight-year-old Ivey, whom Spears shares with husband Jamie Watson.
Spears described having her children on set as a proud milestone in her life. In a July 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she called seeing her personal and professional worlds collide a special moment as a mother.
She recalled that Maddie was impressed after seeing the set, telling her mother that she could not believe the cast had gathered for a film Spears created.
College Softball and High School Milestones
In November 2024, Spears announced that Maddie committed to playing NCAA Division I college softball at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Spears marked the occasion on Instagram by posting a photograph of herself, Maddie, Watson, and Ivey visiting the campus.
"I can remember it like it was just yesterday, as the whole world watched and judged as I made the choice to have my baby at 16 years old," Spears wrote in November 2024. "Fast fwd to today, and that same little baby girl is now 16 years old herself announcing that she will be going to play D1 ball for an amazing college."
The family has shared several other milestones over recent years. In September 2024, Spears coordinated outfits with Maddie and Ivey for high school homecoming, and in April 2024, she posed with Maddie and her date before Maddie's junior prom.
Family Life and Reflections on Motherhood
In May 2024, Spears and Maddie celebrated Ivey's kindergarten graduation. The family also celebrated Christmas 2023 and Easter 2023 together.
Spears, who also stars in the television series Sweet Magnolias, has occasionally spoken about the challenges of parenting. In a Mother's Day post in May 2023, she wrote: "I know motherhood is one of the hardest job at times, and how the mother/child relationships can be really complicated as well. I really try to not take any of it for granted though, even when the kids or my mom are making me lose my mind."
Spears has also taken steps to support her family while balancing work. In 2022, she drove seven hours to surprise Maddie at her homecoming, writing online: "Nothing else I'd rather do & Nowhere else I'd rather be."
Her family and work life have intersected throughout her career. In October 2016, Spears brought Maddie to see her accept an award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International for co-writing the Jana Kramer song "I Got the Boy".
In July 2019, the family celebrated Maddie and her softball team winning the SEAA World Series championship.
Reflecting on parenting while traveling, Spears shared a photo in 2020 showing her giving her daughters a bath, noting that she had been making hotels and tour buses around the world feel like home since she could remember.
