Singer Katy Perry praised her boyfriend Justin Trudeau during a concert film screening in Los Angeles, describing his support as being on a different level.

The 41-year-old pop star spoke candidly on Wednesday at the event for her concert documentary, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live from Paris, about her ongoing relationship with the 54-year-old former Prime Minister of Canada.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Perry highlighted how Trudeau has stood by her throughout their romance, which began in July 2025.

"He's just there to support," Perry said.

Katy Perry can't stop gushing about her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and praised his support while attending the Los Angeles screening of her new concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live from Paris on Wednesday

The American pop artist contrastingly noted that Trudeau's devotion surpassed what she had experienced in previous high-profile relationships throughout her career.

"I've had, you know, people come to my shows before and partners and support in their own way but this is definitely a different level," Perry told the outlet.

Perry is a global pop icon known for chart-topping singles including Roar, Firework, and Dark Horse. Trudeau served as Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 until 2025, leading the country's government. The couple first made public waves after being spotted together in mid-2025 and were seen attending the FIFA World Cup 2026 U.S. opening ceremony on June 12.

Reflections on Not Like the Movies

During the screening, Perry described a mystical moment during one of her concerts that solidified her feeling about Trudeau while performing her 2010 track, Not Like the Movies.

The ballad, originally featured on her hit album Teenage Dream, focuses on refusing to settle for unfulfilling relationships and waiting for a partner who matches one's energy in surprising ways.

Perry recalled watching Trudeau in the audience while performing the song and suddenly realizing that the lyrics she had penned years earlier seemed to foreshadow their romance.

"I sang Not Like the Movies when he was at the show and it is his favorite song and I was like, I can't believe I'm singing this and I wrote this so long ago, and I think I wrote this about us," Perry revealed.

Perry went on to describe the 'weird full circle' moment that clinched the deal with Trudeau

"And this is such a weird full circle mystical, magical moment," Perry continued. "Like, time doesn't really exist in the other place. Right? And so it's wild that it all kinda came together in this way."

When asked if she considers Not Like the Movies to be a true love song, Perry enthusiastically agreed.

"Oh, it totally is. My world has stopped spinning," she added.

Relationship history and past romances

Perry began dating Trudeau in July 2025, shortly after ending her longtime relationship with British movie star Orlando Bloom. The news of her current romance followed a public performance in June 2026, where Perry playfully declined fake calls from her famous exes on a giant prop smartphone while performing her song Never Really Over.

Perry and Bloom, an English actor famous for his roles in The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean film series, confirmed their split in a joint statement in July 2025 after nearly 10 years together. The former couple share a six-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.

Perry's romantic past includes a marriage to British comedian and actor Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012, which ended when Brand famously informed her of their divorce via text message. She later dated American singer-songwriter John Mayer on and off between 2012 and 2015, and was briefly linked to American DJ and record producer Diplo in 2014.

Stage anxiety and living without regrets

At the Los Angeles screening, Perry also spoke to Us Weekly about the emotional pressure she felt when Trudeau attended one of her concert dates in Montreal, Canada.

"I always create a super special fan experience, but I don't typically get nervous," Perry told Us Weekly.

"Maybe I get some butterflies on the first show because it's all the things coming together, and because of social media, you want to kind of get it right," she admitted.

However, having Trudeau present in the crowd during the Canadian leg of The Lifetimes Tour created a noticeably different dynamic for the star on stage.

"But in Montreal, you know, this is the tour. This is the Lifetimes Tour," Perry said. "When the documentary comes, y'all might see me in a different way because... in Montreal, I was like, 'I can't look at him.' A lot of energy."

Perry recently recalled feeling anxious when the former politician attended one of her shows in Montreal. Above, the singer performing in Floriana, Malta on July 22

Despite initial skepticism surrounding her tour, Perry emphasized that she is determined to live her life fully and ignore online commentary or critics who questioned her career moves.

"I think in the beginning of this tour, from the outside, everyone that wants to have a hot take, there were a lot of people betting against me, right, in the very beginning, and this and that," Perry said. "I'm having fun."

"I'm living my whole life," she declared. "You want to call me the queen of cringe? I'm gonna suck the juice out of every single one of these fruits in this life. I'm gonna never have any regrets. I'm gonna leave no stone unturned. I'm going to live my life to the fullest. I am not scared."

Post-split recovery and future outlook

Reflecting on her personal journey, Perry admitted that recovering from her July 2025 separation from Bloom required emotional resilience, especially while raising her daughter.

"This is that one opportunity in this skin, you know, as this character, and I don't want to have any regrets," Perry said. "And it was wonderful for Daisy to see, and it wasn't always peachy-keen jelly bean, right? There were days that were hard."

Perry noted that her outlook shifted significantly as time progressed following the emotional breakup.

"It was hard before July 28, and then it got pretty," she added. "It got cute. It got really cute."
