Small bathrooms: 5 tips for charming and functional furnishings

Architect Jéssica Nunes, partner of Ideia Glass, has selected 5 key elements to create a comfortable and practical space for small bathrooms

At a time when small properties are increasingly common, it’s not hard to find bathrooms with very little footage – after all, it’s usually the smallest room in a house. And, thinking of a place where a shower cubicle, a toilet and a sink are mandatory, the task of creating a welcoming and beautiful environment can seem like a great challenge.

But according to Jéssica Nunes, partner of Ideia Glass, a brand specializing in hardware kits for shower enclosures and glass partition doors, keeping space optimization in mind and making smart choices will guarantee surprising results, demonstrating that even small environments can be beautiful, fascinating and very functional. Check out the architect’s 5 decorating tips:

mirrors

Project by Paula Müller.

Allies of clean bathrooms, Jessica underlines that mirrors should play a leading role in the project, because they are able to provide, in addition to a lot of style and modern design, a sense of breadth and an effect of depth, making the environment seem more great .

Gustavo Marasca project.

“Available on the market in the most diverse formats, mirrors manage to completely change the look, bring more light and expand the feeling of space in the room. I always reinforce this in my projects, because many times it can end up being in a place that reflects a space you wouldn’t want to highlight,” she comments.

windows

Project by João Panaggio.

Some points are very important when choosing a bathroom window, such as durability, security and privacy. In addition, in small bathrooms, the professional highlights a few more topics:

  • Compact windows fit best into the small space
  • The windows installed in the upper part are essential to ensure that the small bathroom optimizes the space, lets in light, privacy and good ventilation.
  • An excellent advice is to insert the window inside the bathroom area, in this way it already performs the function of reducing humidity

minimalist decoration

Macro Architects Project

“Many people are limited when they get to this part, thinking that there is not much to do due to limited space, but a small bathroom does not mean a boring bathroom, indeed, today we can invest in objects that decorate and organize at the same time, such as niches and shelves”, explains the architect.

Project by Sea Architecture.

All space is useful, therefore niches and shelves on the walls help to exploit corners that would often remain unused, take up less space and can be used to house hygiene items, cosmetics, towels and even small decorative objects.

“In addition to these organizational accessories, the walls can also receive comics and sink space and other decoration items – but care must be taken not to create visual pollution and a feeling of disorganization,” says Idea Glass partner.

Bright colours

Project by Daniela Funari.

Visual breadth, sense of well-being and greater visibility are some of the advantages that neutral colors bring to bathrooms with just a few shots, also facilitating cleaning. Colors like white, beige, pastel tones and gray are classic choices, as they don’t risk ending up creating a heavy and stuffy environment.

Project by Mouve Architecture.

“In most of the bathroom, make the neutral tones prevail so that you have the freedom to insert darker and brighter colors in the details, this will prevent the environment from turning into a lifeless look and will favor the use of creativity,” says Jessica.

Love the box

The Box Flex, by Idea Glass, for example, has doors with a flexible opening system, guaranteeing the optimization of space, circulation and the necessary movement inside the premises. Additionally, the box kit has no rails and lots of detailing, which lends a cleaner look to the room, contributing to the spacious feel.

Jéssica Nunes draws attention to this object, which is even more versatile in small rooms. “This is because it can act as one of the main decorative elements of the bathroom in addition to fulfilling its basic function, becoming a fundamental part of the project,” she points out.

Colored metals can also make a difference in decoration.
