On the last day of Casa Clan, the influencer talked about money in a practical way. Check out tips on how to broach the topic with your kids!
Have you ever stopped to think that if you had a financial education in your childhood, you would have a healthier relationship with money today? For a long time we believed that this was a topic that was not talked about openly, out of habit or even embarrassment. But the truth is, the sooner we start dealing with finances, the more natural it becomes.
thinking about it, Nathalia Rodrigues – or nath financeas known in networks – gave some valuable advice on how to work on the theme with the children, going beyond play (which is also a playful way of teaching) and presenting practical solutions. This Saturday the influencer participated in the fourth and final day of Casa Clan, at the talk From economics to investment: finance in real life.
Check out Nath Finance’s advice below:
1. Normalize money talk
Nath begins by explaining that the first step is to make the subject something natural and mundane at home. “In the rush of daily life, we forget to talk about money with children, but this is very important”, alert. It is this habit that will make the little ones grow up without fear of dealing with finances: it will not be something far away, because it has always been part of life. “The idea is not to treat money as if it’s something just for adults, but also for children,” she advises.
2. Give the opportunity to buy something with your own commitment
The second piece of advice from the financial influencer is to show the child how money works. Taking her to the supermarket with you, for example, and giving her the opportunity to choose something and buy it helps to make it more concrete, since the subject can be so abstract in childhood. “When the child asks for something, show that he can get it by doing small tasks”Nathan says. This varies, of course, according to his age and the skills he already possesses. “Little things he collaborates with at home, to know that the more he does, the more he will fill his piggy bank and he will be able to buy something he wants,” he explains.
3. Talk about spending, but also about earnings
Finally, Nath emphasizes the importance of talking not only about expenses, but also about the money that arrives, so that the child gradually understands how this movement of circulation works. “It’s even embarrassing, we don’t talk about salaries, but it should be natural,” he comments. Undoubtedly, this is another way of make the relationship with money less abstract and build the foundations for a financial education that will make a difference in the future.
