Nicolas Cage and the Brotherhood of Dracula: the scariest and most charismatic performers of the role of the main vampire in the film

Lord Dracula, he is the darkest, he is Vlad the Impaler, he is … The role of the main bloodsucker of all time and all people is one of the most interesting characters in cinema. He is adored by the public and actors dream of playing. In honor of the release of the final trailer for the new comedy horror Renfield, where the role of a terrible and powerful vampire went to Nicolas Cage (his finest hour!), we recall his predecessors the more impressive on screen.

Nicolas Cage – Renfield (2023)

It seems that the extravagant Cage has played this role, if not his entire career, at least for quite a long time. The new film will focus on the Shadowed One’s toxic relationship with his henchman Renfield (Nicholas Hoult).

Final Renfield Movie Trailer

Renfield was once a mortal male and a great admirer of the vampire, and of his own free will became his servant. But the centuries pass and Renfield begins to want to free himself from the power of Dracula. And in response, he behaves, in general, like any aggressor and is not at all ready to let the victim go in peace. In addition to wild anger, narcissistic tendencies and a talent for repression, this toxic person possesses incredibly dangerous superpowers against which the psychoanalyst, the police and the church are powerless.

Gary Oldman – Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

Classic 90s cinema with all the star flower garden – here you have Keanu Reeves, and Winona Ryder, and Anthony Hopkins, and Monica Belucci! Considered a classic of gothic literature, Stoker’s novel has been filmed in various variations countless times, and Francis Ford Coppola’s film can be called as close to the original source as possible. And, of course, the audience’s love for the film was ensured primarily by the brilliant performance of Gary Oldman, who had the opportunity to play Dracula in two guises – an infinitely mysterious and handsome young dandy from the capital and an old man full of black, terrible strength (in a beautiful dressing gown).

Mark Warren – BBC Dracula (2006)

British television has told the story of Dracula twice, and the 2020 series directed by Sherlock creator Steven Moffat has gained notoriety. But the previous version was recognized as unsuccessful – the Billy Eagles show was not very lucky with both the script (still based on Stoker’s novel) and the production. But we still want to remember this film adaptation and note the incredible Mark Warren in the title role. We bet that Ivan Rheon was inspired by it while preparing for the role of the psychopath Ramsey Bolton in Game of Thrones.

Rudolf Martin – The Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula (2000)

Rudolph Dracula is well known to Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. Accustomed to the role of the prince of the living dead, he perfectly embodied the image of Vlad the Impaler of flesh and blood in the Romanian-American biopic about the life of Dracula (yes, there is such content). There is no mysticism in this film, and all the horrors are standard medieval horrors. Well, the Romanian governor put people on a stake, and that’s what happened!

Wei-Qiang Zhang – Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary (2002)

Another version of Bram Stoker’s story – this time in the form of silent films with ballet. The show, frankly, isn’t for everyone, but one can’t fail to note the lead actor, the towering Chinese handsome Wei-Qiang Zhang. Unfortunately, the filming of Dracula turned out to be his first and last significant cinematic work.

Klaus Kinski – Nosferatu: Ghost of the Night (1979)

We specifically placed Klaus Kinski on our list further down, which, of course, is completely unfair to his acting talent. But the German actor’s Darkest turned out to be very scary, naturally, at least endure the saints. In general, this is what an ancient creature with a strange metabolism should look like. No charm, no humanity, just paralyzing terror.

Richard Roxburgh – Van Helsing (2004)

A true champion of charisma! Dracula, played by Australian actor Richard Roxburgh, turned out to be a real guy and bon vivant – as ambiguous as that sounds compared to a character whose heart hasn’t been beating for a long time. Sexy Dracula, in the eyes of fans of the film, even surpassed Van Helsing himself a little, and he, for a moment, is Hugh Jackman himself.
