The case took place in Nepal and the patient says he is “drunk”
A 47-year-old man was admitted to the emergency room of the Medical College of Nepal’s Teaching Hospital after having a glass cup lodged in his anus for three days. According to an article published in the “Journal of Nepal Medical”, the unidentified patient initially denied the intentional insertion, but later admitted that he used the cup “for self-gratification when he was intoxicated”.
According to the article, he hadn’t evacuated in two days. The man tried to remove the glass himself, but to no avail. “There were no comorbidities and the patient had no history of psychiatric illness. The patient’s mood, behavior patterns, and intuition were normal at the time of examination.
He needed to undergo treatment and surgery. There has been an attempt to manually remove the cup through the anus, but to no avail. After the tests, the professionals decided to remove the cup surgically, with an incision made in the intestine.
The postoperative period, according to the article, was uneventful. On day three, the man started a liquid diet. “The drain was removed on the sixth postoperative day and the patient was discharged on the seventh postoperative day. At regular follow-up, two months after surgery, she is fine, and anal tone is still intact.”
Care should be taken with inserting objects into the anus, as it can cause bowel perforation and serious infection leading to death.
