The eternal Queen of the Little People turns 60 this Monday March 27 and has already proven to be a box of surprises. Always linked to social causes, Xuxa stopped consuming meat in 2018 and today she consumes a completely vegan diet.

The decision came after watching the documentary Terraqueos (Earthlings – Make the Conncection, 2005). The production shows the animal exploitation that takes place in large industries. In an interview with Contigo magazine, she went so far as to say that, today, eating animal protein is at the very least getting cancer: “I don’t want to kill animals or feed on them anymore,” she said.

Veganism in Brazil

Intelligence in Research and Consulting (IPEC) data for 2021 proved it 46% of Brazilians have already stopped eating meat alone at least once a week. Vegetarianism and veganism have gained followers in the country.

Unlike vegetarianism, which is based on the consumption of foods of plant origin, veganism is a lifestyle that aims to eliminate all forms of animal exploitation. Therefore, there is a very specific diet, as Xuxa does too.

Let’s take a look at four foods that are not lacking on Xuxa’s table and can inspire you?

Lentil

You need to know about this legume by New Years, but the truth is, lentils can be good for you all year round. It can replace beans and is an important source of antioxidants, zinc, potassium and phosphorus. It prevents and treats anemia and can help control diabetes.

Vegan mayonnaise

This is a great option to replace one of the Brazilians’ favorite sauces, without cholesterol, to prepare the recipe you need oil, vegetable milk, lemon juice (or apple cider vinegar) and salt.

bifum rice noodles

Have you ever heard of this delicacy? Bifum is a very traditional rice-based noodle in oriental cuisine. It can be combined with salads, soups and other dishes and is much lighter than the pasta we know.

brown rice

It is a well-known product, and not only by those who opt for diets that exclude meat. Brown rice is a source of vitamin E, being an important antioxidant agent. It also helps regulate cholesterol levels.
