A survey conducted by I fixed it, a Brazilian pharmaceutical company with access to medical cannabis products, services and training, highlights the main concerns of people interested in treatments with cannabis-based medicines. According to the survey, products for the treatment of anxiety symptoms are at the top of the demand list.
The analysis points out that many patients seek out non-prescription drugs, as most are unaware that they need to consult a doctor first. In addition, the search for products that treat pain is also highlighted, as well as questions related to imported products and oils that are sold in pharmacies.
Check out the full list of top questions below:
- • Seeking medical care: 60%; 35% seek treatment for anxiety and 25% for pain
- • Search for drugs without a prescription (many patients are unaware of the need to consult a doctor first): 20%
- • Doubt about imported products and oils sold in pharmacies: 10%
- • Look for other types of cannabis products, such as cannabidiol flower (CBD): 10%
Cannabis treatment for various ailments
According to Fabrízio Postiglione, CEO of Remederi, the evolution of the pharmaceutical industry offers innovative methods of treatment with cannabis for various diseases, both physical and psychological.
“The number of scientific studies demonstrating the efficacy of cannabis drives this research forward. It is essential that companies in the sector have all the necessary support to offer the best structure to these patients, who are largely fragile and need this support ”, he explains.
He also explains that the fact that the sector is not yet legalized in the country makes it difficult for people to access the products and that the means of communication are essential for spreading knowledge on the subject.
“The number of medical cannabis patients has been growing year on year. The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) shows that today there are more than 120,000 people registered to use medicines based on the plant’s assets”, he points out.
The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) has given itself the prerogative to decide on the plantation of cannabis in Brazil, opening the space for the legal cultivation of the plant for medicinal and industrial purposes. The production and marketing of cannabis-derived products are allowed on the national territory, however many companies are still obliged to import the raw material used in their products, giving it a high value.
Regulation could help 13 million people
For Fabrízio Postiglione, broader regulation could benefit a much larger number of people, certainly more than 13 million Brazilians with various pathologies, especially if the plantation were legalized in Brazil, which would reduce import taxes on products.
“Recent initiatives by some states to facilitate access to cannabis for medicinal purposes are a start for a future that can promote quality of life in a way that is accessible to all,” he concludes.
