“Proofreading”
A wealthy and happy couple’s life is taken to hell after a random acquaintance of his wife is found dead. The main suspect is the husband – after all, he just left on a business trip and hasn’t returned. Who was really the victim? Were our heroes so serenely happy? Did Hugh Grant’s hero go on a business trip? “Apple Park”
A frankly suggestive story about how passions play with a person, and that one lie necessarily leads to the next, bigger and more terrible than the last. There are only 4 episodes in the BBC series, each literally upsetting the feelings of the viewer. And the point is not only in the finely orchestrated conflict, but also in the amazing acting of Emily Watson and Mike Costley.
“Alienist”
Only 150 years ago, psychiatrists were called Alienists – they were believed to explore and treat certain extraterrestrial movements of the soul. It’s such a specialist in the company of a devious detective and reporter who sets out to investigate a complicated murder in a brothel (there are no other murders there). Beautiful costumes, dirty secrets – the miniseries, by popular demand, has been extended for a second season, but it is quite possible to be limited to the first.
“The woman in the house opposite the girl at the window”
What happens when a woman who drinks heavily finds out that a wonderful neighbor has moved into the house across the street? Stop, it’s a selection of action-packed series! Of course, starting to follow the handsome man, our heroine quickly becomes a witness to the crime. And then things take a very crazy turn…
“The Chestnut Man”
In any selection of good mystery novels, there is no escape from Scandinavia. Based on the best-selling novel by Soren Sveistrup, this thrilling miniseries doesn’t let its slow pace fool you: there are hidden clues in every scene that will play their part in the finale. The police investigate a series of bloody murders, in each of which there is only one piece of evidence – a chestnut figurine. And the main suspect, according to the fingerprints, is the daughter of a local official. Everything would be fine, only the girl disappeared a year ago.
“Murder”
Strictly speaking, this is not a mini-series: the Danish-Norwegian-Swedish “Murder” (original title Forbrydelsen) has three seasons and two adaptations – American and Russian. And we highly recommend the first season of the original: it’s a very Scandinavian, very dark and very twisted story of the investigation into the murder of a teenage girl, where all is not what it seems at first. With the exception of Detective Sarah Lund, she is immediately beautiful and remains so.
“Sharp Objects”
Even if you managed to read Gillian Flynn’s thriller of the same name, it will still be interesting to watch – both because of the dark atmosphere of the stuffy American South carefully created in the miniseries, and thanks to the excellent ensemble cast (Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Sidney Sweeney) . Journalist Camilla, almost against her will, finds herself many years later in the town of her childhood and must discover hiding places that she would prefer to forget forever. And it’s not even about the therapeutic effect: the girl’s past hides a clue that will help stop the killer, who seems elusive.
“Candy”
Unrecognizable Jessica Biel in a series based on real events. How did a God-fearing Texas housewife stab her best friend 41 times with an axe? They will tell us about it in 5 episodes, and everything will turn out that it seemed to have no other way out, that’s what the main horror is. “Candy” is a series in the true crime genre, which means it will be of particular interest to viewers who particularly enjoy recreating the procedural side of the investigation.
“The Trial of Innocence”
There were Scandinavians, the time has come for Agatha Christie – this detective miniseries was filmed based on her work. The plot is based on a harrowing crime. The adoptive mother of five is beaten to death in her own home, and everything points to one of the adoptive orphans. The suspect is thrown in jail, where he dies, and after more than a year, a witness is announced, proving the guy was innocent. As always with the Detective Queen, the outcome will be logically determined, but completely unexpected. Pure pleasure!
