Artist Turns Pets Into Disney Characters: Touching Art by Isa Bredt

“Disneyfication” is what Isa Bredt calls what she does with photos of her followers’ pets.

Since 2014, Isa has been transforming dogs, cats, birds, rats and even opossums into Disney cartoon characters. The artist says what she likes the most is the beginning of the process: “I find what makes the animal special, then I do the first sketch. I take great pleasure in analyzing the traits of my new hero.

For a long time, Isa did not take money for her work: subscribers simply sent her photos, and Bredt redrew those that hooked her. However, the artist has recently started working on commission: now anyone can get a portrait of their cat or dog for $60.

The illustrator continues to work for shelters for free: she draws their homeless “guests” who are looking for owners, preferring those with physical disabilities – for example, missing an ear or an eye. “Once I was looking at the site of the shelter from where I had adopted my cats, and I wanted to help these animals that have been there longer than the others,” says Bredt.

The artist isn’t sure her work always helps, but she knows for sure it’s happened twice. “A dog named Diesel was taken in after the shelter added my drawing to the adoption page. And Benji’s picture on my page helped find him a family, even though before that no one wanted to play with him a scared pit bull,” says Isa.

Bredt encourages everyone to help shelters – after all, the animals that end up there can’t solve their problems on their own. Well, we invite you to look at the works of Isa – just make sure that the body does not develop an overabundance of tenderness!
