A model Lygia Fazio dies, 40 years oldhighlighted the health risks caused by cosmetic procedures with PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). The journalist had suffered a stroke three weeks ago and, according to reports from friends, health problems began after resorting to an aesthetic procedure which associated the substance with industrial silicone.
“The risk of PMM associated with stroke is at the time of injection. Injected into an artery, this product could enter the artery as an embolus and hit a vessel in the brain. So that would be the risk. However, from what I’ve seen this model, she had the procedures three years ago, so she didn’t die from a PMM embolism that went to her brain and caused a stroke,” explains the dermatologist Daniel Coimbra, of the Les Peaux clinic.
