1. Keep your skin hydrated
Fissures, also known as cracks, occur due to thickening and dryness of the skin, continuous use of open shoes, walking barefoot, shoes that cause friction and pressure, being overweight and also due to certain pathologies.
“Remembering that cracks are considered a passageway for viruses, bacteria and fungi,” explains Yumi Ikeda. To avoid chapping, keep your skin well moisturized with foot cream and wrap the area in plastic wrap. Another tip is not to sand your feet too much.
2. Avoid removing the cuticle
Nail weakening can occur due to lack of vitamin B, protein, trauma (injury), excess polish and remover, or use of medicines. When any of these factors occur, nails can become dry, flaky, or become brittle and thin. To avoid weakening, do not remove cuticles and moisturize nails with moisturizer or oil. If the problem persists, a visit to the dermatologist is necessary for an evaluation of the problem.
3. Do not touch the ingrown toenail
For people with a predisposition to ingrown toenails, it is best to see a podiatrist to perform the procedure which involves excising excess skin and technically cutting the blades, according to the anatomy of the toe. “If you have a lesion (infection), you need to remove the ‘foreign body’ which can be a spicule or a fibrin,” explains the podiatrist.
That is, in the cases of ingrown toenail, it is better not to touch it, so as not to aggravate the problem, and seek help from a specialist. “In order not to run the risk of a finger infection due to an incorrect cut, the patient should always consult a podiatry professional,” emphasizes Yumi Ikeda.
4. Invest in a foot bath
For those days when you are really tired and your feet are crying out for help, a good alternative to relaxation is the famous foot bath. “The immersion bath is recommended to relieve tension, to give well-being”, explains the podiatrist.
To relieve tiredness, just put two liters of warm or boiling water in a basin and add a handful of rock salt. Blend essential oils related to relaxation, like rosemary and lavender. Soak your feet for about 20 minutes and dry them normally.
5. Wear comfortable shoes
Who hasn’t had those thicker, uncomfortable skins that pile up on the soles of their feet? “Both calluses and calluses appear at friction and pressure points and are caused by shoes in daily use,” says Yumi Ikeda.
According to the practitioner, the callus covers a small area and may have a central core. Already callosity is when it covers a larger area. Either way, the tips are to be used comfortable shoes and maintain frequent hydration in the area. When the problem becomes uncomfortable, the ideal is to seek an expert.
