The Jundiaí Epidemiological Surveillance investigates the deaths and the suspects suffered by them dengue, leptospirosis OR Rocky Mountain spotted fevertick-borne disease.

The municipal body announces that it has received notification of the death of the pilot and entrepreneur Douglas Costa, 42, last Thursday 8, hospitalized in a private hospital in the city. His girlfriend, whose name has not been released by the city hall, had the same symptoms and was being treated in a health unit in the capital São Paulo, but she too did not resist.

In a statement, the surveillance specified that, according to the notification form, the symptoms began on June 3 “with fever, body aches, rash (red spots on the body), evolving into a more serious condition”. The agency received reports that the couple had been in the rural area of Campinas before 3 June and in Monte Verde between 3 and 4 of the same month.

On Monday 12, the Jundiaí town hall will send the patient’s biological samples to the Adolfo Lutz Institute to define the diagnosis.

The Health Department of Camanducaia, where the Monte Verde neighborhood is based, said it had been informed of the case, but said it was “unlikely” that any transmission of spotted fever occurred in the municipality of Minas Gerais. This is because, the file reads, the municipality has not recorded any cases of disease or the presence of the star tick for over 20 years.

Furthermore, symptoms began on June 3, when the couple had just arrived in the municipality, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever has an incubation period of 2 to 14 days, indicating that, if this diagnosis is confirmed, the transmission would have occurred earlier.

Douglas Costa was a businessman in the custom furniture business in Jundiaí and a driver of the C300 Cup, organized by AMG Cup Brasil. On its social networks, the company mourned the passing: “To all the family and friends, our sincere condolences. We know that Douglas was an admirable person and that, for sure, he will leave a great void in the hearts of all those who have Had the honor and pleasure of meeting you.”
