Surely you have come across phone calls from scammers posing as representatives of a bank or law enforcement agencies. The intentions of these scammers are clear and it is a matter of technology to recognize them. But “silent calls” – the story is much less clear. Why call and be silent or hang up? Or maybe it’s not a scam at all?
The subscriber receives a call from an unknown number. When he picks up the phone, there is silence on the other end of the line – or they immediately fight with short beeps. What is this? Is it dangerous? How to behave?
It is important to understand that scammers in cellular networks are a huge technology industry in which thousands of people turn, huge databases and many ways to take money are being developed. The “silent calls” are therefore only one link in a long and complex chain.
And they have two main purposes:
- Check if the number is up to date. When a call is received and a live person answers the phone, the system saves this data to the database.
- Record the voice of the caller and the phrases he says. With their help, a special program will be able to imitate the voice of the victim or use his “yes”, for example, as a voice confirmation of a bank transaction.
Therefore, the most correct decision is not to pick up the phone from unknown numbers. But suddenly your employer or the man of your dreams calls you? No one can guarantee that’s not the case – that’s what scammers use.

So, to be sure, react as follows:
- Never say yes when answering a call, especially if the number is unfamiliar to you. Say “hello” or pick up the phone silently
- Do not say long sentences, if the other end of the line is silent, do not find out who is calling and why. Better hang up and block the number
- Do not call back an unknown number in response to a “silent call” or a missed call
- And remember, these are real people. those who come to see you on a matter will find a way to convey the essence to you: a call without notice is now increasingly seen as shameless. Typically, a telephone contact precedes a message to the messenger with an explanation of the purpose of the communication.
Be careful! It’s worth it.
