A UK man has died after trying to drink all 21 drinks on the bar menu at a resort in Jamaica. According to information on the “Complex” website, the victim’s name was Timothy Southern, he was 53 years old and was on vacation with his family.
The previous investigation concluded that the tourist had already downed shots of brandy and beer the morning before participating in the challenge. The prank started after the tourist met two Canadian women at the bar; one of them was celebrating a birthday and came up with the idea to create the contest.
Timothy managed to drink 12 cocktails before he died. He returned to his hotel room, the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean in Saint Ann, where he later died of “acute gastroenteritis” related to excessive alcohol consumption.
Close people even asked the rescuers for help, but it was not enough. The man was found ill by one of his family members. “(When I saw him) He was on his back choking. I put him in a different position and yelled to call an ambulance. He was making a horrible sound. As soon as he sat down he threw up. I was screaming his name with no response,” he said.
“When the (hotel) nurse came, I said I had called an ambulance and she said ‘no’. I thought she would take over. But this is not the case. I noticed she was starting to lose her temperature. I checked his pulse and couldn’t find it,” the relative said. “He said he had a pulse. I took one look at his face and thought he was dead,” the relative continued.
“I said, ‘Don’t sit there and watch it, start CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).’ She just gave him chest compressions. Maybe if he knew what he was doing, maybe he would still be here,” added the family member, who called the service provided by the hotel “disgusting”.
Now, the family is trying to bring the victim’s body back to the UK. They started an online crowdfunding called “Please Help Bring Our Father Home from Jamaica.” So far, the campaign has raised £9,000 and the target is £15,000.
“Hopefully this way we can try to raise as much money as possible to bring him home so that we as a family can say our goodbyes.”
