Every corner of the world appeared in the top 50. South Africa’s Creation (4th), French Château Smith Haut Lafitte (5th), New Zealander Rippon (11th), American Jordan Vineyard & Winery (20th) and Japanese Château Mercian Mariko Winery (38th position) were the highlights of their continents. In addition to the first classified, 15 wineries from South America classified in the standings: seven Chileans, six Argentines and two Uruguayans. No Brazilian wineries made the list.

1st place – Catena Zapata, Argentina

Founded in 1902, the award winner is a family winery in Mendoza, a mecca for wine lovers in Argentina, recognized as responsible for revolutionizing Malbec-type wines.

Among the experiences offered to visitors is “Wine & Music”, which includes a visit to the cellar and the tasting of five wines “harmonised” with different musical styles. Discover all the tours offered and make your reservation here.

In March 2023, the winery opened its first restaurant, the Angelica – Master Kitchen. With an architecture inspired by Italian villages, the restaurant follows the “wine-first” concept, where wine is seen as the centerpiece and not just a complement to the food.

2nd place – Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, Spain

Elected world runner-up for the third consecutive year, the Spanish Bodega de Los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, in rioja, is housed in an iconic building with sloping walls, zig-zag windows and lots of color designed by Frank Gehry, who is also responsible for the Museo de Bilbao. Inside there is a hotel and also a Michelin-starred restaurant, managed by chef Francesco Paniego.

Bodega de Los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal offers tours of the vineyards which can be done on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Book here.

3rd place – VIK, Chile

The building’s undulating metal roof contrasts with the remote landscape of the Cachapoal Valley in which Vinã VIK is immersed. In addition to the winery, there’s a hotel with glass rooms, a spa with wine-based treatments, and restaurants that emphasize organic cuisine.

4th place – Creation, South Africa

Creation Wines, voted the best on the African continent, is located in the mountain range Hemel-en-Aardein the province Floral cape, and is one of the most biodiverse wineries in the world: it is not uncommon for visitors to spot leopards, for example. Innovative, Creation uses solar energy, has artwork dotted around the country and the restaurant menu has a good range of vegan meals. Visits to the vineyards can be done on foot or by bicycle.
