The Ministry of Health wants to update vaccination cards for children and adolescents and increase protection against various diseases
The Ministry of Health begins another phase this Saturday 30th multi-vaccination campaign. Today it starts simultaneously in the following states: Paraíba, Ceará, Piauí, Alagoas, Tocantins, Goiás and São Paulo. According to the folder, the main immunizers available are those from polio, hepatitis, BCG, MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and COVID-19.
“Our country was the most respected in the world in terms of vaccinations, but with the decline in vaccination coverage in recent years, unfortunately we run the risk of reintroducing diseases that had been eliminated in Brazil. We must therefore protect our children and adolescents. We have a fundamental responsibility, something that the statute of childhood and adolescence defines as a right. The right to a vaccine is a right to protection, it is a right to life that cannot be denied”, underlined the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, in a note.
The statement highlights that, since 2016, Brazil has been listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a place at very high risk of reintroduction of polio, for example. In fact, in the first half of the year, multivaccination was advanced in Amazonas, Acre and Amapá after a case of the disease was reported in Peru, in a border region.
According to the Ministry, the campaign follows a micro-planning method, recommended by the WHO. The objective is to offer various activities focused on the local reality, from the choice of the target population, to the selection of vaccines, to the definition of vaccination dates and places up to logistics. “The proposal is to align these strategies with local managers and leaders to achieve better results and improve vaccination coverage.”
Next steps
Rondônia, Bahia, Pernambuco, Sergipe and Rio Grande do Norte they will be the next states to receive the multi-vaccination campaign. Actions in the health units of the municipalities of Rondônia begin on October 2nd. In other states the mobilization begins on October 7.
