Spring: 4 species of seasonal flowers and how to care for them

The expert explains what care is necessary to make your home more beautiful with typical seasonal flowers

Spring has arrived and, with it, flowers! But this season it’s not just parks, gardens and streets that are full of flowers: houses and apartments are part of it too! After all, who doesn’t want a plant that can spruce up their home and still give it a spring feel?

Although the period is known as the “season of flowers”, it is important to remember that they are neither born nor remain beautiful without the ideal conditions. “During this period the sun appears for most of the day and the climate tends to become warmer. You must therefore pay attention to exposure to the sun and water at appropriate times, preferably in the morning and late afternoon”, advises Pedro Melo , CEO of the flower shop Melo Flores.

Furthermore, it is necessary to understand the particularities of each species and what it needs to survive. To help you with this, the businessman quotes four species of flowers characteristic of the season and teaches how to take care of each of them. Watch!

Sunflower

Defined as the “flower of the sun”, the sunflower is one of the species that blooms during spring and can be grown as an ornamental plant, in pots or in the garden. She represents happiness, vitality and positive energy. And among your concerns is the need to receive plenty of light.

“The sunflower requires direct light for a few hours a day and it is preferable for it to be in the morning. Furthermore, the flower could become too heavy and compromise the stem. It is therefore advisable to tie it with an object that helps support the plant”, suggests the specialist .

Viola

Normally grown in small pots, the violet enchants with its variety of colors and meanings, such as loyalty, modesty and joy. And one of his most important needs is related to humidity and air.

“It is important that the soil of the violets is always moist and avoid placing the pot near places with high air circulation, so that the wind does not damage the flowers and foliage”, underlines the managing director.

Orchid

Another typical spring flower, the orchid is elegant and can be found in different sizes and colors. It can be kept in pots or attached to tree trunks, e.g It requires indirect light and attention to the amount of water.

According to Pedro, it is also important to pay attention to the material of the vessel used. This is because the plastic containers that usually accompany it tend to accumulate water and this can harm the vitality of the plant. In this sense, favor ceramic and terracotta pots, which have a greater draining capacity.

Lily

Pedro explains that lilies are flowers that do not require frequent watering, so they can occur from two or three times a week in the warmer seasons, such as spring and summer. During autumn and winter, only once a week.

“Pruning lilies should be carried out during the flowering period of the plant, eliminating the withered flowers. Furthermore, it is important to give preference to leaving the vase in indirect sunlight, so that it does not damage the delicate flowers, which represent purity and love”, he concludes.
