The result of a billion-dollar investment, the concert hall was inaugurated with a U2 show and broke the record for the largest spherical structure and largest LED screen in the world
Opened in Las Vegas on September 29th, the Sphere at The Venetian it is a colossal auditorium that promises to revolutionize the concert and events sector. The largest spherical structure in the world, it stands 111 meters tall, meaning it is larger than monuments such as Christ the Redeemer and the Statue of Liberty.
But what really attracts attention is the fact that its exterior is covered by the largest LED screen on the planet: 54 thousand square meters that project very high resolution images and videos. This way, there is no way to do it Ball go unnoticed during a walk along the Strip, the iconic avenue that hosts the hotels, casinos and concert halls of Las Vegas.
The result of a total investment of 2.3 billion dollars, the project was created by the Populous architecture studio, responsible for some of the main sports arenas on the planet. The inauguration of the space had to be up to par. And so it was: After four years away from the stage, U2 performed under the LED screen inside the 15,000 square meter sphere.
The Irish band will perform there through December, in a residency called “U2 Achtung Baby Live at Sphere.” Screenings of the film will also be held at the same time Postcard from Earth created specifically to be displayed Ball by director Darren Aronofsky. SPACE
A Ball It had already attracted attention long before its inauguration. The outdoor screen lit up the Strip for the first time by projecting the U.S. flag on the Fourth of July, the day Americans celebrate their independence.

But those who have the chance to take to the field are even more surprised. Right in the lobby of the concert hall, visitors encounter a human-shaped robot called Aura, who welcomes newcomers.
You have to climb a long escalator to reach the actual presentation space, where the 173,000-pixel internal screen, 76 meters high, is located. To make the experience even more engaging, the projections are complemented by an audio system with Wave Field Synthesis technology, which uses more than 167 thousand speakers with efficient acoustic insulation.
THE SEATS
A Ball it can accommodate up to 17,500 seated spectators and can accommodate another 3,000 standing people, in the sector directly in front of the stage. Those who agree to attend the elevated presentation save on the ticket price, but have more difficulty following the beautiful projections.
The other sectors have seats, which rise along the sphere and rest on a very steep structure. The best seats are between sectors 200 and 300, which offer both a good view of the stage and LED screen projections.
In 10,000 of the 17,500 seats, haptic technology has been implemented that vibrates depending on what the viewer sees on the screen. The feature also allows you to create wind, odor and temperature effects.
The immersion is such that the experience can cause nausea or dizziness in people sensitive to this type of sensory stimuli, as already reported on social media. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
U2 SHOWS
Irish band U2 will perform a total of 25 shows Ball until December 16th. The presentations feature songs from the album Achtung Baby (1991), which gives its name to the residence, completely integrated into the gigantic LED screen: the projections range from psychedelic to relaxing, from artistic creations to natural landscapes, with a complete immersive experience.
Some dates are already sold out and ticket prices range from $221 to $11,789, depending on the day and sector chosen.
POSTCARD FROM THE EARTH
Permanently exhibited at Ballthe film Postcard from Earth (something like “Postcard of the Earth”, in Portuguese) was designed specifically for the technological resources of the auditorium: the display of landscapes such as canyons and mountain ranges occurs in 18K resolution.
Directed by New Yorker Darren Aronofsky, behind critical successes such as Black Swan (2010) AND The Whale (2022) , the production has a science fiction atmosphere and is intended to be a sort of love letter to Mother Earth. Tickets cost between $89 and $249.
