Brazil and Italy now have 42 weekly flights
ITA Airways, formerly Alitalia, launched the non-stop route between Rio de Janeiro and Rome on Monday (30th). The inaugural flight, AZ 673, departed at 3.45pm from Galeão airport bound for Italy and was operated with the Airbus A330neo, one of the most modern on the market. There are a total of 291 seats distributed in three classes: Business, Premium Economy and Economy.
With the launch of the new route, ITA Airways now has 14 weekly flights between Rio de Janeiro and Rome, in addition to the 28 weekly flights that the airline already operates between Guarulhos and the Italian capital. Brazil and Italy now have 42 weekly flights.
From Rio, passengers will be able to continue traveling to other destinations in Brazil and South America with Azul, Gol or Latam thanks to the SPAs (Special Prorata Agreements) and codeshare agreements signed between the companies.
The launch of the new route at Galeão airport was attended by Emiliana Limosani, commercial director of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare, the company’s loyalty program; with Pierfrancesco Carino, vice president of international sales; Andrea Taddei, Country Manager Brazil, among others.
ITA now has 12 intercontinental destinations from Rome: New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, New Delhi and Malé (Maldives). learn more

The exhibition was inaugurated on Monday 30th at the Italian consulate in Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with ANSA, the Italian press agency. The Map of Connections: Rome and Rio de Janeiro between history, culture and great passions. From the Roman Carnival to the Sapucaí Sambadrome, from the Film Festival to the high fashion catwalks, from culture to sport – with a focus from the challenges of the national football teams to the Rio Olympics – the images in this exhibition capture moments of great cultural interest and relevance , artistic and historical, highlighting the influences shared between Italy and Brazil. The consulate is located at Av. Presidente Antonio Carlos, 40, Castelo (near Santos Dumont airport). Open Tuesday to Friday from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
