The initiative is from the United Nations; the tool starts working this Monday (6)
A chatbot to help adolescents and young people who have just received a positive HIV test has just been launched by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) and UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Program on HIV/Aids ). Called KEFI, it can be accessed via Whatsapp.
The goal of the tool is to offer support to this audience, with confidentiality and security. All conversations are conducted by artificial intelligence, completely confidentially.
“KEFI talks about useful information that promotes attachment to care – from the importance of adherence to treatment, to accessing services – as well as offering psychosocial support. This creates a space of trust with quality information and appropriate language,” says Luciana Phebo, head of health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS at Unicef in Brazil.
The most recent data from the HIV/Aids Epidemiological Bulletin of the Ministry of Health indicates that 40,880 HIV cases were reported in Brazil in 2021, of which 18,013 were among young people between 15 and 29 years old.
The news of the diagnosis, however, is not always accompanied by adequate reception and information for this public, which motivated the initiative. The contents were created with the contribution of industry experts and other young people, and the development was handled by the technological and social impact startup Talk2U.
HIV and AIDS: what’s the difference?
Having HIV is not the same as having AIDS. Many people can spend many years with HIV without showing symptoms or developing the disease.
But those who have the virus and do not know it, or do not have medical supervision, can transmit HIV to other people through unprotected sexual intercourse, sharing contaminated syringes or from mother to child during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when they do not adopt the appropriate precautions. prevention.
