The pandemic and technology are driving change in many Brazilian homes

The pandemic and the advancement of technologies related to domestic environments are causing visual and structural changes in many Brazilian homes. In general, transformations are a reflection of people’s new habits and behaviors.
Undoubtedly, the period of restriction on social circulation and the expansion of technological connections influenced the emergence of new trends in the field of architecture, construction and interior design.

“Brazilians have given their homes more value and are making them a multifunctional environment, combining rest, work, study and leisure. Cascola’s marketing manager who highlighted 4 types of common reforms in these times.
1- Home offices

Some of the country’s workers have “moved” the office permanently home. The teleworking model grew exponentially worldwide during the critical period of the pandemic and consolidated after the global reduction in virus transmission.
A survey by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) indicates that 11% of employed people in Brazil carried out their activities remotely between May and November 2020 (approximately 8.2 million).

Another important figure from Ipea estimates that 16.6% of the activities carried out in the country can be carried out remotely. The study also reveals that the Federal District and Sao Paulo are the regions of Brazil with the greatest potential for absorbing remote functions. In these places it is estimated that respectively 28% and 21% of the activities can be carried out through teleworking.
Creating workspaces makes even more sense with the expansion of the hybrid model, which allows you to work both at home and in the office.
2- Dividers

With family more time at home, individuality ended up being undermined for many. The search for the term “environmental divider” has more than doubled in searches for the Google between the beginning of the pandemic and the present day.
These structures that offer convenience in installation can be hollow and retractable. And they are on the rise for their ability to individualize environments and to allow for room integration. In this sense, room dividers have been used in interior design projects to divide the room into two or more rooms.

“The process of installing partitions, be it wood, MDF, PVC or other surfaces, has become easier with the use of mounting adhesives. These products help bond materials, with improved finish and durability,” Vitor evaluates. Cybis, Marketing manager of Cascala.
According to him, in terms of safety, it is not always possible to know what the plumbing and / or electrical systems are like in an environment. Therefore, using a drill or demolishing walls can become a problem. “So it’s another opportunity to use mounting stickers safely, for example,” he adds.
3- Integration of social environments

Making the most of every square meter of home space has never been more important. In this sense, creating interconnected multifunctional spaces – like the trio living room, balcony and kitchen – it is a solution that gives the feeling of spaciousness to the residence.
For a real and daily need, the population looked at the property itself with more affection and attention. As a result, these transformations in the domestic space caused the building materials sector to grow by 16% in 2021 compared to the previous year.
The data comes from a study conducted by the National Association of Building Materials Traders (Anamaco), in collaboration with the Brazilian Economic Institute of the Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
4- Study space

Distance learning was already a reality before the pandemic and has expanded its structural basis to serve students in the period of social restriction. Despite the greater number of vaccinated people and the flexibility in controlling the virus, distance learning is still on the rise.

The migration from classroom to home studies has had a direct impact on internal reforms. The interior design projects have favored greater comfort and space optimization. An example is the installation of supports fixed with adhesive solutions to the walls, for storing school supplies, in addition to the concern for ergonomics.
