Gingerbread: find out how to make the Christmas movie cookie!

Washed down by hot chocolate, snow stories, gingerbread and fantastic gifts, the arrival of Christmas brings with it unique traditions, scenarios and sensations! Thus, although the Christmas atmosphere spreads throughout the world, many Christmas icons are limited to the northern hemisphere and only arrive in Brazil through the “Sessão da Tarde” films…




However, it doesn’t have to be this way! For example, you can try classic gingerbread cookies – or gingerbread – At home! And thus satisfy your craving for this dessert worthy of Hollywood stars!

Gingerbread cookies recipe

Time: 40min (+30min in the fridge) (+1h rest)

Performance: 50 units

Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:

  • 200g unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups (tea) sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups (tea) of wheat flour
  • 1 pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Clove powder to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Margarine and wheat flour for greasing

Icing

  • 1 egg white
  • 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Preparation method:

  1. Mix the butter with the sugar, egg, flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt, kneading with your hands until you obtain a smooth dough.
  2. Then wrap in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface and cut it out with small Christmas cutters.
  4. Then, place them in a large greased baking dish, side by side, and bake in a preheated medium oven for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  5. Remove and let cool.
  6. For the icing, in a mixer, beat the egg whites until slightly airy.
  7. Add the sifted sugar and lemon juice, little at a time, without stopping whisking, until a firm mixture forms.
  8. Remove from the oven and place in a piping bag fitted with a small pearl nozzle.
  9. Finally, decorate the biscuits on top and leave to rest for 1 hour before serving.
