Serra da Capivara will be the scene of a music festival

The Serra da Capivara National Park, in Piauí, is the largest and oldest concentration of prehistoric archaeological sites in America. In its rock formations are preserved cave paintings that indicate the human presence in the region for over 50 thousand years, which constitute a monumental open-air museum and will frame the fourth edition of the Opera da Serra da Capivara between 26 and 30 December July. But part of the program will also take place at Praça do Abrigo in the city of San Raimundo Nonato, which is a base for getting to know the region. In 2022 the exhibits will honor the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Franco-Brazilian archaeologist Niéde Guidon, who made important discoveries about the origin of the American peoples in Serra da Capibara and placed Brazilian archeology in a prominent place in world research.




The musical performances are accompanied by shows and dances.

PROGRAMMING AND TICKETS

The opening of the festival will take place on Tuesday (26) and Wednesday (27) with free concerts at 20:00 at Refuge square in San Raimundo Nonato. The first day will perform Cátia de França, from Paraíba, who has participated in albums by Zé Ramalho, Lulu Santos, Elba Ramalho and Bezerra da Silva. In the second the stage is by Ostiga Júnior, by Piauí, with its blues and rock versions of Roberto Carlos’ greatest hits.

The shows in the amphitheater of Perforated stoneinside Serra da Capivara National Park, will take place over the next three days, again starting at 19:00. Tickets must be purchased in advance at Sympla: they cost R $ 198 for the first lot (sold out), R $ 246 for the second and R $ 286 for the third. The evening will begin with an opera in homage to Niéde Guidon, followed by a presentation by DJ Gil Preto del Paraná, whose sets mix rhythms from various regions of Brazil.

Starting at 9 pm the musical program varies according to the day. On Thursday (28), Roberta Sá will sing classics from Alcione, Martinho da Vila and Zeca Pagodinho (tickets here). Friday (29) the show is by Cordel do Fogo Encantado, a group from the Pernambuco hinterland specializing in Afro-indigenous rhythms (tickets here). Dona Onete, from Pará, concludes the program on Saturday (30) with Amazonian sounds – in particular bolero, benguês and the “carimbó chamegado”, a rhythm of her (tickets here).




Pedra Furada receives special lighting and serves as a backdrop for presentations.

The complex is open every day from 6:00 to 18:00 and admission is free. However, you must be accompanied by one of the accredited guides (see a list of all of them here), who charge around R $ 200 per day for groups of up to eight people. They take you through different circuits within the park, the most famous being the Capivara Canyon and the Baixão da Pedra Furada.
