The Casa de la Arquitectura will host exhibitions and cultural activities on the relationship between architectural heritage and social development
At the end of 2023, Madrid acquired another museum: La Casa de la Arquitectura, in the Arquería de los Nuevos Ministerios. The institution hosts discussions on health, quality of life, sustainability and accessibility, always with architecture at the centre.
The museum’s motto is that architecture has a direct impact on the formation of a people. The exhibitions will address the importance of preserving Spain’s historic heritage and the buildings’ influence on society.
The location of The House of Architecture It is strategic on the Paseo de la Castellana, where iconic buildings such as the Royal Palace are located. Furthermore, the building of the institution itself is a jewel of Spanish architecture. The exhibitions take place in an underground gallery of the Nuevos Ministerios government complex, designed in 1933 by Secundino Zuazo.
Three exhibitions are currently on display. In “The Building of a Country” Spain is presented in miniature. Until March 30, more than 60 models accompanied by photographs reconstruct works that have marked the history of the country’s architecture.
The “Nameless Models” exhibition, focusing on Barcelona projects, was part of the 1st Biennial of Young Architecture of Catalonia. Models from the last decade are exhibited and, as the name suggests, without revealing the authorship of the prototypes. The exhibition can be visited until March 10th.
Architecture seen from a younger perspective is also part of “Ecosistemas.zip”, which sheds light on the creative processes and new ways of working of architects born since 1986. The exhibition is open until March 10.
