Apsen’s executive vice president talked about how self-knowledge freed her to be all versions of herself
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Clan House 2024 promoted a meeting on multitasking in women’s careers and personal lives, entitled “Is multitasking your last name?”.
Hosted by journalist Paola Carvalho, the chat was attended by a woman who well represents the proposed topic: Renata Spallicciexecutive vice president of Apsen, who is also a chemical engineer, book author, podcast host, bodybuilder and queen of the samba school.
The Casa Clã host said that the divorce in 2009 was a real turning point in her life, which led her to better understand her powers.
“Right when I got divorced, I entered therapy. I came to therapy and my first conversation with the psychologist was: ‘I don’t know who I am, I don’t know what I like. […] I began a process of knowing myself which is constant and which has allowed me to have the courage to do the things I do today, but which were not a reality before”, he said.
Thus, the fear of being invalidated as a professional for showing her other versions gave way to the freedom and self-confidence to allow herself to live other experiences.
“When I decided to be a manager, I thought I had to give up Renata who wants to go on stage in a bikini [como fisiculturista], because they were about to say things. Sometimes I stare at my ‘baby’ [no passado] and I think, “My God, she was such a dreamer.” So I got to know myself better and things started to come into my life.”
Self-sabotage in a woman’s life
A strong female figure in the corporate world, Renata Spallicci also raised a reflection on the tendency of women to self-sabotage. According to her, while women tend to belittle themselves and are afraid of not being ready, men show more self-confidence to take risks in the job market.
“The man applies for all the vacancies, whether he is ready or not. He thinks that he will learn as he goes, that he will find a way, that he will find someone on the team who will help him. Women, on the other hand, need to prepare themselves,” she said, reiterating once again that women must believe in their potential to be who they want to be.
