Learn from chef Giu Giunti how to prepare this delicious baked snack

The Croque Madame is one of my favorite snacks, as well as being super filling, it’s covered in white sauce, cheese and a fried egg with a runny yolk on top. Take the opportunity to make this delicious recipe, the “feminine” version of the classic French Croque Monsieur.

Croque madame

Yield: 1 serving

Difficulty: Easy

ingredients

  • 2 slices of Italian bread
  • 1 egg
  • Slices of Ham Royale
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Preparation method

In a pan, toast the bread slices with the butter and set them aside. In a pan, prepare the béchamel using the butter and wheat flour, melt it until it becomes a paste and then add the milk, when it has thickened slightly add 1/2 glass of cheese and turn off the heat.

In a refractory dish, arrange the toasted slices and add a part of the cheese to the ham slices and cover with the béchamel sauce, cook until the cheese melts. Remove from the oven and arrange one slice on top of the other, leaving the filling inside. Cover with more béchamel and finish with the cheese.

Cook until golden brown. Remove when the cheese is golden. Fry the egg, leaving the yolk soft and place it on top of the snack. Serve while still hot.
