Far beyond the urbanity of parks like Ibirapuera and Carmo, São Paulo has green areas that not all São Paulo residents know about, both in the capital and in the metropolitan region
According to the Green and Environment Secretariat, in the capital alone there are more than 100 parks and around 40 thousand hectares protected, in eleven municipal conservation units.

Cantareira Forest
Fattening nucleus
This is the historical version of Floresta Cantareira, an area opened to the public in 1992, with historical attractions on the water supply of the city of São Paulo, such as the Engordador Dam and the Casa da Bomba.
Located in a building dating back to 1894, the site houses a boiler and two pumps, one steam of English origin and the other diesel of German origin.
The park has three walking options: Macuco Trail (650 meters and easy difficulty level), Cachoeira Trail (3 km/medium) and Mountain Bike Trail (4 km/medium).
The center is located in Avenida Coronel Sezefredo Fagundes, 19100 – Jd. Waterfall
Cantareira Forest
Águas Claras Center
This center, in Mairiporã, can also be accessed from the Pedra Grande viewpoint, in the Horto Florestal region.
The place is known for the Trilha das Águas (320 meters long and easy level), Trilha da Samambaiaçu (1,450 meters/medium) and Trilha da Suçuarana (7.4 km/difficult).
Águas Claras is located on Avenida Senador José Ermírio Moraes, s/n, in Sítio Barrocada.

SelvaSP
This private park is located in the APA Capivari-Monos, an environmental protection zone in the Engenheiro Marsilac district, in the far south of the city of São Paulo.
Territory of the Tenondé-Porã indigenous community, the region is home to the largest rural area in the capital of São Paulo and the city’s first and only adventure park.
In Selva SP, a 17,000 m² natural area, you can sail on the capital’s last clean river, hike in the Atlantic Forest and enjoy ecotourism activities such as kayaking, SUP and abseiling.

PNM Varginha
Interconnected with nearby Jaceguava, in Parelheiros, this Municipal Natural Park has 419 hectares and was created to mitigate the negative environmental impacts caused by the Rodoanel works.
About 30 kilometers from the centre, Varginha is also part of the Interparques, considered the longest route in the city of Sao Paulo, at 170 kilometres, and is often sought after by groups of cyclists.
The site is equipped with parking, bathrooms, ATI (Academy for the Elderly), accommodation for researchers, library, naturalized playground for children, cycle path, paths and lookout on the bank of the Billings Dam.

Neblinas Park
It is located between the municipalities of Mogi das Cruzes and Bertioga and hosts an area of seven thousand hectares of Atlantic Forest with the possibility of ecotourism activities for all visitor profiles.
The most popular activities are the 20 kilometers of trails, with options for self-guided and monitored routes, and easy and medium difficulty levels.
Guided routes cost R $ 75 per person and require advance booking, such as Pedra Riscada path (10 kilometers – round trip – and medium level of difficulty), passing through the old path dating back to the times of eucalyptus cultivation in the area and the Pedra Riscada waterfall.
Already the Panoramic trail You start on an old road in the native Atlantic Forest, full of ferns and microorchids, until you get to the Itatinga River Dam, from where you can see the coast. It’s 11 kilometers of medium level walking.
The park also offers other activities, including cycle tourism, a camping area, in modules in the middle of the forest, and canoeing in inflatable kayaks, on tours of about a kilometer that pass through isolated areas and small rapids, on the Itatinga River.
