The city is a great day trip for those living in Sao Paulo
The XXII National Museum Week takes place from 13 to 19 May, which this year has the theme “Museums, training and research”. The Itu Republican Museum will carry out three different activities during this period, for two days.
The first of these will be the inauguration of the exhibition “Os Tiles from there and from here”, which will present the work developed by the participants of the workshop cycle “Tilemaking: Techniques and Stories”, which addressed the history of Portuguese tiles and the composition material of the tiles that make up the decoration of the facade and internal atrium of the Republican Museum.
The inauguration is scheduled for Friday 17th at 10.00 am. On the same day, at 2 pm, the educators of the institution will carry out an educational mediation on the presences and absences of female representations in the visual narration of the set of pieces of the Republican Museum.
The following day (18th), starting from 10 am, the virtual exhibition “Azulejos Bordados” will be inaugurated, in which works created with tile panels from the Republican Museum and produced by the Bordadeiras do Utuguassú group of artisans will be presented.
More information can be obtained from the Education Sector (11/4023-0240) or by sending messages to edu.mrci@usp.br.
Information on the Republican Museum of Itu
The Itu Republican Museum is located in a historic building where the Itu Republican Convention was held on 18 April 1873, a meeting of politicians and coffee plantation owners to discuss the situation of the country, an original landmark of the republican campaign and of the foundation of the Republican Party of São Paulo, which culminated with the end of the monarchy and the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889.
In addition to the republican movement and the first phase of the Brazilian Republic, it is also about the history of Itu and the region, with an emphasis on the 19th century, highlighting Itu artists of that period.
