Beginner at the gym? Know what not to do

Starting to go to the gym is an important step in the life of people who want to get away from a sedentary life. We have already seen that strong muscles can release more than 600 substances that are beneficial to the body, including serotonin and endorphin, also known as pleasure and wellness hormones. In addition, a good percentage of lean mass is able to consume more calories and accelerate the body’s metabolism. Function that promotes fat burning and, consequently, weight loss.

Add all of these benefits to better self-esteem and aesthetic appearance. Bodybuilding is a great tool for promoting health and quality of life. However, for people who have never been to the gym, starting the experience can be challenging. The first hurdle is delayed onset muscle pain. Often in the first few days it is common and may not be unbearable. If the discomfort lasts longer or manifests itself in a very intense way, it is worth consulting the teacher.

But, in general, it will pass as your body adjusts to the new stimulus. And this is where the main challenges of a beginner in the gym begin. To avoid stupid mistakes, which can delay the development and pursuit of goals, we consulted the coaches Leandro Twin and Renato Cariani. Check out these tips from fitness experts:

1 – Don’t be ashamed to ask your gym teacher for help

This is certainly one of the most classic and serious mistakes. For the beginner, every training move is new. Therefore, it is common to have doubts about the execution. The shame, at this point, can cause you to make other mistakes that could easily be avoided. Performing the exercises incorrectly can cause injury. “Physical education professionals are trained and studied to help you,” comments Cariani.

2 – Haste is the enemy of perfection. Prioritize execution

Once you’ve got a taste for bodybuilding, it’s normal to feel like you’re skipping steps, albeit subconsciously. Constantly challenging yourself and trying to evolve loads and repetitions is important. But you need to be aware of your current stage and not overdo the weights. This can impair execution, stop muscle contraction, slow development, and even cause injury.

“You control the load, it is not the load that controls you. When the load controls you, you do the exercise in a very clumsy way. Or you do it too quickly, with the aim of finishing soon,” says Cariani. For the expert, good sets should last between 30 and 50 seconds.

3 – Taking hormones without medical supervision is a serious mistake

The anxiety of achieving a dream physique can get in the way of your journey in countless ways. One of them wants to shorten the path with the use of steroids and anabolic steroids. These drugs are generally only indicated for high-performance athletes, such as bodybuilders, and they also need constant medical guidance and monitoring.

“Also be careful when thinking of using steroids and anabolics in a faster evolution. This sport is not that simple! Making an analogy is the same as giving a Formula 1 car to someone who has never driven, it won’t pay off and it’s still taking risks, ”says Twin.

4 – Don’t believe that supplements can work wonders

Supplements, as the name suggests, only serve to provide nutritional support to the diet and balance the diet. They are a great way to keep your nutrient intake up to date, but they won’t work wonders. “Some people are a little more afraid of steroids, but they end up paying for this anxiety by taking supplements even without a balanced diet. Therefore, diet is the first concern,” concludes Twin.
