Doctor fired after denying certification to woman with sick 5-year-old son

According to the mother, the doctor said that even with the fever, the child could stay home alone.

A doctor was fired after denying, on Monday morning (5), a certificate of accompaniment to a mother who had brought her 5-year-old son to be treated at an emergency room (UPA). The case occurred in Cambé, Paraná. The information comes from the People’s Republic of China.

The child had a fever and other common flu symptoms. Her mother, Luciana Gonçalves Costa, works as a concierge in an apartment building and she would have to stay at home to look after her son, since the child would not be able to go to school.

But according to the mother, the doctor said that either she should take him to work or another option would be to leave her son alone at home. The conversation was recorded on video by Luciana. In disbelief, she wonders how she would leave a 5-year-old alone at home, while the doctor insists that the child can be alone. The mother had to wait for another doctor to arrive at UPA to obtain the certificate.

According to the RPC, the doctor is entrusted to the Intermunicipal Health Consortium of Paranapanema Medio (Cismepar), which removed the professional and opened administrative proceedings to investigate the case. Also according to the report, the Regional Council of Medicine of Paraná (CRM-PR) opened a procedure to investigate the doctor’s conduct.
