As Generation Z increasingly enters the job market, strategies are needed to attract and retain these talented young people. Addressing Generation Z is seen as a challenge for 68% of companies, according to Great People & GPTW Ecosystem’s “People Management Trends” report. The survey also shows that GenZ has been blamed by other generations for a lack of effort and impatience in their careers. A study by resume software ResumeBuilder reveals that 30% of companies had to fire a young zoomer within 30 days of starting the job.
Marcello Amaro, CHRO of Door 3, a corporate travel and expense management platform for over 800 companies in Latin America, highlights that an effective approach involves understanding the unique characteristics of this generation, such as the search for purpose, flexibility and technology. To stay engaged, organizations must offer an inclusive environment where they can express their creativity and innovation.
“The arrival of a new generation always has an impact, because it involves young people with a different worldview. These newcomers have a different maturity than those who are already in the job market, after all, they still have to gain experience and understanding how a business works, which takes time. The fact that these new employees are accustomed to the instantaneousness and flexibility offered by technology contrasts with the bureaucratic and hierarchical processes common in many organizations,” he says.
Another important aspect is the valorization of constant and transparent feedback. Gen Zers appreciate immediate feedback on their work and value open communication with their managers. Therefore, promoting a culture of constructive feedback can strengthen the relationship between employees and the company, promoting the loyalty and commitment of young professionals.
