In this retreat, in the heart of São Paulo, the landscape adds the atmosphere of the courtyard to solutions for leisure and rest, as well as pots with spices
The desire of the residents – a couple with teenage children – was to transform the garden of the house into a meeting point, with defined spaces where they can relax to the sound of the murmur of water. Designed by São Paulo landscape architect Gilberto Elkis, the renovation began with the 80-square-meter area at the entrance.
“The modernity of the project lies in the way it explores different elements. The texture and shape of the foliage, the combination of succulent pots and the cladding with pebbles and grass make the whole dynamic, setting a welcoming tone,” says Gilbert.

At the back of the residence, other surprises are presented in the other 190 square meters of outdoor space, including the tub-shaped swimming pool with a small beach at the end for those who want to take a swim or simply cool off.

The green walls next to the pool and on the side of the terrace with the reflecting pool comfort the gaze, inviting contemplation. “The original jabuticabeira of the country became the main focus with the bench structure,” he adds. A planter installed near the dining nook served as a base for pots of spices and herbs, offering a permanent, soft aroma into the air as an extra treat.
