The animals are transferred to institutions and sanctuaries
World Beto Carrero, in Penha (SC), announced that June 27 was the last day of operation for the Mundo Animal zoo, which has operated in the theme park for 32 years.
According to the park, the decision was made with animal welfare in mind. According to the company, the animals will now be transferred to institutions and sanctuaries with an environment closer to their natural habitat.
Mundo Animal Zoo coordinator Katia Cassaro said in an official statement that the team concluded that the park’s shows, toys and other attractions were not compatible with maintaining the animals’ enclosures. The positioning was published on the official YouTube channel of Beto Carrero World and on Instagram.
OR Beto Carrero, which opened in 1991, began as a circus. Animals such as tigers, monkeys, elephants and lions performed acrobatics and interacted with Beto Carrero himself and other artists. Many of the animals that lived at the zoo also participated in circus acts, which stopped hosting animals in 2008.
According to the company, the park has partnerships with entities such as ICMBio and Ibama, allowing the animal enclosures to be aligned with environmental codes and international protocols. The park has also welcomed endangered species, such as the golden lion tamarin and the giant anteater, into operations in collaboration with Ibama.
