Whatever your opinion of the Eiffel Tower, there is no way to travel around touristy Paris without coming face to face with what is considered the most visited monument in the world.
After all, this 330-meter-high metal structure weighs more than 10,000 tons and supports 18,000 pieces of iron and 2.5 million rivets.
Discover interesting facts about the Eiffel Tower
Created by Gustave Eiffel, a French engineer famous for his bridges, viaducts and metal structures, the main symbol of Paris was inaugurated in 1889, on the occasion of the centenary of the French Revolution, during the Universal Exhibition of the same year.
During the event, which saw the participation of over 60,000 official exhibitors, the Eiffel Tower served as the entrance to the exhibition, which featured presentations of innovations in industry, commerce and behavior.
But first the Parisians had to wait two years, two months and five days, the time it took for Eiffel to complete that “symbol of technological prowess”, thus marking the end of the 19th century in France.
The success would be immediate (and, based on current numbers, it continues to be).

Since it opened, the tower has received nearly 300 million visitors of all ages and nationalities, according to the attraction’s management. Seven million people visit the site each year, of which about 75 percent are foreigners, making it the most visited paid monument in the world.
One of the most anticipated moments is after sunset, when the tower lights up and flashing light sessions are activated in the first five minutes of every hour.
Few people know this, but the tower has taken on different colors over the years.

Completely renovated every seven years, according to the instructions of Gustave Eiffel himself, the tower has been covered in shades ranging from “Venetian red” (1887/88) to nuanced tones of brown, since 1968, in harmony with the Parisian urban landscape.
The painting currently consists of three different shades of color: from the darkest at the base to the lightest at the top, creating a visual impression of uniformity. Each renovation requires the labor of about 50 painters specialized in metal structures and 60 tons of paint.
How much does it cost to visit the Eiffel Tower
Open to visitors every day, the tower is divided into three levels: the 1st and 2nd floors, and the upper one, which is accessed by stairs or elevator and the price of tickets varies depending on the place the tourist intends to visit.
To reach the top of the tower, for example, you need to pay between €26.90 (about R$164) and €35.30 (about R$214) with access to the second floor via stairs or elevator, respectively.
If you want to drink a glass of sparkling wine up there you have to pay €58.30 (about R$356) and for a brunch at Madame Brasserie, on the 1st floor, the price goes up to €115.30 (R$705), including the visit.
In summer the attraction is open from 9:00 to 00:00.
