Study Shows Which Exercise Burns Fat Even While Sitting

Moving your calf muscle can help burn calories and lower blood sugar while you work out.

A new study, led by a professor of Health and Human Performance at University of Houstonin the United States, has shown that a simple exercise, performed with the movement of the soleus muscle (located in the calf), is able to increase the burning of body fat and speed up the metabolism.

The work of Marc Hamilton, in collaboration with two other scientists, was published in the journal iSciencein September. According to research, soleus movement supports elevated oxidative metabolism (the burning of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins), improving blood sugar control more effectively than other exercises and intermittent fasting.

“We never imagined that this muscle had this kind of capability. It’s been in our bodies all this time, but no one has ever studied how to use it to optimize our health, until now,” Hamilton explained. “When activated correctly, the soleus muscle can elevate local oxidative metabolism to high levels for hours, not just minutes, and it does so using a different fuel mix.”

Also according to the study, the effects of soleus muscle movement improved by 52%. blood sugar controlreducing insulin requirements by 60% within three hours of drinking a glucose beverage.
