Spring care: the secrets to making your hair shiny during the flower season

With the arrival of spring not only flowers bloom, but also the need to renew hair care arises. After the cold and dryness of winter, this season’s increasing humidity requires special attention to keep hair healthy. It’s time to adapt your routine and make sure your hair is beautiful and protected for the warmer days ahead.

With this in mind, we invited trichologist João Gabriel Nunes, founder of the Centro Médico Capilar, to explain how increased temperature affects the scalp and hair. According to the expert, in spring there is increased oil production, which makes some hair heavier.

Additionally, sun exposure can also cause dry hair, dry and brittle ends. So some precautions are essential to make your hair shiny during the flower season.

Maintain a hair routine

The Doctor warns about the importance of following a spring routine, as well as using specific products. “During spring, it is very important to adapt your hair routine to be able to deal with increased greasiness. To achieve this, it is recommended to wash your hair more frequently, to prevent the accumulation of residues and to moisturize it regularly to replace all the water it contains, the strands lose with exposure to the sun. In addition to protecting the hair from the sun with specific accessories or products that contain UV filters, to prevent further dryness and loss of shine”, says the expert.

In fact, the biggest secret is: balancing the natural oil of the scalp with the hydration of the hair. This is because it is extremely important to take care of cleansing the scalp, but without compromising the health of the hair.

Use the right products

For cleansing, Nunes recommends anti-grease shampoos or gentle cleansers. As for conditioners, the ideal is to use light products based on natural oils. “Moisturizing masks with nourishing active ingredients, such as shea or coconut oil, will help replenish moisture, while heat protectants or leave-in products with sunscreen will be essential to protect strands from further damage,” she adds.

Now is the time to start preparing for summer

With the end of spring we will have summer. Therefore, the specialist recommends starting the treatment now, to avoid dryness in the future.

“It is possible to maintain an intense hydration routine, alternating hydration and nutrition to preserve the health of the hair and prepare it for common summer aggressions, such as sun, chlorine and salt. It is also good to invest in reconstructive treatments with keratin and proteins, finally, avoid the aggressive chemical treatments as much as possible near the arrival of summer, so as not to weaken the hair”, he reiterates.
