Day of the Dead: Pray for those who were there and find comfort

Prayer for a loved one

“Holy Father, eternal and almighty God, we ask you for (name of the person), whom you called from this world. Give him happiness, light and peace. May he, having passed through death, participate in the coexistence of your saints in the eternal light , as you promised Abraham and his descendants, that his soul suffer nothing and you deign to resurrect him with your saints on the day of resurrection and immortal life in the eternal kingdom through Jesus Christ, your Son, in the unity of the Spirit Holy.”

Supplication for those who have passed away

“With a sorrowful heart I remember, before the Lord, my dear family members and friends who have passed away. God’s will be done! As Job teaches us, God has given, God has taken away, blessed be his holy name! Death is the condition everything is mortal. It is the way of life. I know that crying is good and it does not mean that we are against God.

With a Christian feeling of charity I pray for my deceased. I offer the sacrifice of my prayer for them, which is the only place I can find them and the only thing I can do for them. If you need my prayer, I ask the Lord to welcome you into his home. May they have the joy of being in Heaven. May my suffering and my prayer help their purification. So, when you arrive at the house of the Lord, you will be able to intercede and pray for us. Amen!”

Prayer of Eternal Rest

“Grant them, Lord, eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, by the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

To overcome the pain

“O God, who at all times governs the life of men, we humbly entrust to you your servant (name the person), whose premature death we all mourn; let him enjoy eternal youth in the bliss of your home. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ , your Son, who is God with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, Amen!”

For All Souls’ Day

“O God, who with the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ revealed to us the enigma of death, you calmed our anguish and made the seed of eternity that you yourself placed in us flourish: give to your children and to your deceased daughters the definitive peace of your presence. Dry the tears from our eyes and give us all the joy of hope in the promised resurrection. This we ask of you, through Jesus Christ your Son, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, who died in the hope of the Resurrection rest in peace.
