Snyder arrived there in 2017, then accompanied by his then-wife, who died in 2023. After 73 years of marriage, he didn’t even think about falling in love again. But everything changed when she met her new partner.

After Cartwright caught her attention, the man began to approach and she immediately noticed the movement. “Wherever I was, he was there. I looked up and there he was, right there. And I thought, ‘Well, maybe this man likes me a little bit,’ she told the KUT News channel.

Some time later, Snyder gathered courage and invited the lady to dinner. The meeting ended with a walk in the courtyard of the nursing home. As the months passed, the two quickly realized they were in love.

Love also surprised the two of them, who no longer thought about a relationship. “It never occurred to me that I would meet anyone, or even want to. But I think I fell in love with him… after a few months,” Cartwright explained.

When the marriage proposal happened, the suitor immediately said ‘yes’. One doubt, however, still worried the couple: the reaction of their children. Fear, in the end, was nothing more than their thoughts. The heirs accepted the romance and even helped with the wedding, which took place in the courtyard of the sanatorium.

Now they just want to spend as much time together as possible: “I hope we can make it to five years. But I think we’ll enjoy each other as long as we have this,” Snyder reinforced.

Cartwright teaches that it is never too late to love: “The crux of the whole story is that you can love again. It’s wonderful to know that you can,” he added.
