With the release of AMIGAS, the artist reflects on the importance of women in the genre
Among the most important singers of the last decade, Simone Mendes continues an increasingly promising solo career. But musically she has done a bit of everything: she went from the role of a chorister to being part of the iconic duo Simone and Simaria, who collected famous singles, such as Closed regime (2016).
To crown a successful 2024, the muse of suffering participates, on the 18th, in FRIENDSa musical special by Rede Globo with the artistic direction of Raoni Carneiro. In an interview she celebrated the success of women in the country and took stock of her artistic career.
FRIENDS
The project renews a legendary program from the 90s and will feature several big names in country music, as well as Simone herself. Among those confirmed are Ana Castela, Lauana Prado and the duo Maiara and Maraísa. The artist considers the new edition historic. “I am very happy and excited to be part of this chapter of music. This project has a very special meaning because it highlights the strength of women in a genre that has always been very masculine, but which, in fact, today embraces talents of great talent, women leading country people in Brazil,” she reflects.
The artist remembers his journey into popular music with great affection. “I started playing forró at 14, which I’m passionate about. But country music is my essence, a space that I fought hard to reach, first with Simaria and now in my solo career. Success didn’t come early, but every moment was worth it!” rejoices.
Simone and the ‘feminejo’
One of the genre’s greatest female representatives, the singer celebrates the growing female presence in country music and takes the opportunity to cite her references. “I am a big fan of As Marcianas and the Galvão Sisters. I have great admiration and respect for their entire journey and their strength, especially in an era when men prevailed,” she comments.
She welcomes the importance of female representation in music. “Today we have more space and visibility, and it’s incredible to see this growing female participation in the genre. There are many artists who show the strength of women in country music and conquer their speaking space. Today we can sing about drinking, horns, love, relationships… And that’s the most important thing, having the freedom to sing and be who we want,” she says.
Simone believes that the most rewarding thing about her entire career is the ability to inspire people. “I am very happy and grateful to be able to help my fans through my songs and also to encourage other women to pursue a career. For this special, we have carefully selected the repertoire, to bring a lot of love and positive energy to the audience. Get ready, which will be an evening full of great successes and many musical encounters that will certainly mark the history of country music!” it ends.
