The Italian designer evokes casual grandeur by combining elegance and informality

Italian designer Sabato de Sarno embraces “casual grandeur” through looks that balance informality and kindness

In the moodboard of the Italian designer Sarno Saturday (41) there were several images of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994) in street style shots wearing his famous Gucci Hobos, with his usual understated elegance complemented by huge sunglasses.

During a pre-show interview, Sarno said that the path followed in this collection was “casual grandeur”, something like casual grandeur in loose translation, designating the sophistication taken from the look that doesn’t try too hard.

The term was also used by the British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan (1894-1986) to describe the unique elegance of Jackie O., then First Lady of the United States, who combined European sophistication with all-American ease.

With “casual grandeur” in mind, de Sarno presented creations that embrace this aesthetic concept through looks that balance informality and kindness. Suits with a sporty tone, tailored trousers with a more voluminous shape combined with low-cut tank tops or shirts draped casually over the shoulders, medium-length straight dresses with unusual cuts and deeper necklines, leather skirts with accentuated slits, transparent lace, bras on display, the hot pants, the coats with jeans, the miniskirts with the high-waisted parkas: absolutely all the looks were capable to emanate this casual grandeur that comes from the skilful and extremely current combination of elegance and a lot of informality.

In addition to the bags, accessories such as the wide-brimmed hats of the 60s perfume, the gloves, the Mary Jane pumps and the famous bamboo on the handles of the bags launched in 1947 replicated in necklaces and bracelets corroborate the designer’s intention to reconfigure the natural elegance of the bags.
