The doctor explains the bioimpedance test

The test is quick, lasts 5 to 10 minutes and does not cause any discomfort to the patient.

The digital influencer fitness Karina Lucco has already told on her social networks that she has undergone bioimpedance. But what does this exam actually consist of? According to cardiologist Frankel Brandão (CRM-MG 50.917 and RQE 38.512), graduated in Nutrology and Sports Medicine, this exam aims to analyze the patient’s entire body composition, presenting a diagnosis in relation to weight distribution and describes the quantity and the percentage of lean mass, fat, water, bone density and other factors. He emphasizes that the exam is essential to indicate the physical condition and can guide different types of treatments.

The doctor explains that the patient is advised to fast for four hours, avoid physical activity on the day of the exam, not consume alcoholic beverages and not apply creams on the extremities of the body, such as hands and feet. In this way, the risk of any interference with the results is greatly reduced. After this preparation, the individual moves up a specific ladder. “The device conducts a low electric current, which runs through the entire body, evaluating the body density of each tissue. In this way it provides results on the patient’s physical condition”, he underlines.

According to the expert, body bioimpedance is aimed at people who want to better understand their body composition. The cardiologist reminds, for example, that the exam helps in treatments for losing weight, increasing muscle mass and doing physical exercise. “To ensure optimal results, it is recommended to repeat the exam every three months. This facilitates the patient’s progress and can show suggestions regarding any changes in eating plans, training or treatments,” he concludes.
