Fernanda Paes Leme case: the expert explains how a woman’s mind works after giving birth

In an interview with CARAS Brasil, psychologist Letícia de Oliveira comments on the case of Fernanda Paes Leme, who felt insecure about her body after giving birth

Fernanda Paes Leme (41) – highlighted in the series Love of my lifefrom Disney+ – recently shared her insecurities about her body on social media following the birth of her baby daughter Pillarof eight months, following a relationship with an entrepreneur Vittorio Sampaio (31). The actress went through a period of adapting to the physical and emotional changes of motherhood. She expressed the challenges of accepting body changes and the pressure to recover quickly. In an interview with CARAS Brazilpsychologist Letícia de Oliveira explains how a woman’s mind works after giving birth.

According to Fernanda, although she is experiencing a period of joy over the heiress’ arrival, she is faced with feelings of insecurity about her appearance. “I never thought I’d say this, but I feel insecure about my body. It’s a slow process of acceptance”commented the actress, adding the importance of being honest about these emotions, especially for other mothers who may be going through similar experiences.

The artist also spoke about the social pressure placed on women to get back into shape quickly after giving birth. She criticized the unrealistic expectations often placed on mothers and highlighted the need for greater empathy and understanding. “I think it’s important to remember that every body has its time and its history. We don’t need to put so much pressure on ourselves.”she mused, encouraging other women to be kinder to themselves.

Fernanda also confessed that she is working to regain confidence and well-being, but without rushing, and stressed that she has focused on small daily steps, such as a balanced diet and light exercise, but always respecting her limits. “I’m trying to reconnect with my body and understand that it has given me the greatest gift of my life”he stated.

For psychologist Letícia de Oliveira, in addition to hormonal, routine and identity changes, women undergo physical and aesthetic changes. With this she considers post-pregnancy, motherhood, a watershed. “As regards identity, the identification of the person with himself, because everything he knew about himself, he no longer knows. So the body becomes another body, the routine becomes another routine, tastes become different , priorities change”highlights.

“So it takes a little time for that mother, that woman, to be able to look at herself in the mirror again, to be able to identify with things, things that perhaps were a priority before the child was born, and which are not. And this also happens with regards the body. We live in an extremely sexist culture, extremely tied to appearance and we have role models of people who have just had a child and get back into shape quickly – and some even manage to make it a priority in front of the body after giving birth, if she feels frustrated, she blames herself, yes takes responsibility, gets depressed, can no longer fit into his clothes, often doesn’t identify with his wardrobe”continues the specialist.

According to her, there is then a process of validation of these emotions, of this insecurity and dissatisfaction. “Because when we accept these emotions, we structure ourselves to be able to change and take the next steps. So, I thought it was really cool that she was able to accept the emotions, without confusing the fact that this has nothing to do with do with the satisfaction of motherhood, but with a loss of identity, and with the possibility of positively influencing other women who go through this situation and cannot have the slightest knowledge or support”he concludes.
