Suzuki damage: a brilliant woman

The actress celebrates the success of her new work, “Secrets” and talks about career and representativeness

The actress Damage Suzuki returned to the big screen at the end of 2024 with an unprecedented challenge: with her first film in English.

In SecretsIt gives life to Naomi, a woman in front of revelations that transform her vision on love and marriage. With scenes recorded in Brazil, more specifically in Passo Fundo (RS) and Joinville (SC) the production brings an intense and emotional drama.

“It was a wonderful experience. I studied, so it was not frightening to have so many scenes in English, but surely the emotional depth that the film has requested everything more demanding. A script with strong emotions in another language sometimes confuses the mind a little, yes,” said the actress in an exclusive interview with Malu.

In itself

Damage claims to have been inspired by his own experiences to compose Naomi. “We did not have such a profound laboratory in the construction of the characters, in terms of body or voice work, but we had many conversations and reflections on their behavior and how we could transmit so many discomfort and so many secrets without having to verbalize them. It was a thinner and observation job,” says the actress, who also revealed that it was always a dream to make an English film.

In addition, the protagonist also listed the final scenes as the most demanding of the plot. “We had very little time to film and many strong combat scenes. Sometimes the scene was fantastic, but if we did a little pronunciation, we had to do everything.”

Much more to come

Furthermore SecretsDamage has two projects stripped for the debut: Capoeirasin Disney+, e (In) vulnerableI eat! Fun. “Two very distinct but extremely engaging series. In CapoeirasI make a half -rebel fighter and inside (In) vulnerableAn extremely scientific and correct doctor. Both are very human characters, who will live great emotions. “

Representation

Speaking of Asian representativeness in Brazilian cinema, damage believes that there is still a long way to go. “We have excellent Brazilian Asian actors and the brightness and talent of this crowd must be shown in the world. They deserve it,” he said.

Damage goes well beyond the actress

With a multifaceted career, damage is not only an actress, but is also divided between being a director and activist. But how do you balance everything? “I am discovering every day, because every function of this does not have a routine. So I have to juggle every day and constantly rediscover new formulas. And this is one of the reasons why I find life so beautiful and complex.”

In addition, damage includes that cinema can also be a tool for awareness and social change. “And it has worked in this way for many decades. Human beings have been moved from emotion and cinema is a tool to move people’s feelings. Perhaps one of the most efficient,” he said.
