The technology brings together tutors and veterinarians, optimize care and offer support in various situations, but there are clear limits

THE telemedicine The veterinarian is consolidating himself as innovation in Brazil and all over the world, guided by technological progress and changes in consumer habits and the care of pets. This is what the co -founder of the hotels lobby and the platform work for dogs, André Faim.

According to the expert, consultations through telemedicine also offer pets with a new horizon for health monitoring, providing greater agility and accessibility.

“This technology expands access to medical guidelines, reduces response times in emergency situations and helps tutors who live in remote regions or difficulties of mobility to the face,” he says.

As Faim explains, for cases of projections, accompaniments of already started treatments, conduct adjustments and general guidelines, the appeal “is legitimate and can represent an important evolution in the way we take care of our animals”.

The advantages of online service

The Larissa Reis veterinary states that veterinary telemedicine is a convenient procedure.

“For tutors with narrow routines, difficulties of mobility or living in areas far from the veterinary clinics, the online consultation becomes a facilitator. Imagine living in a campaign or to have a pet that underlines a lot when you leave the house; the canvases can be the solution to ensure that it receives the necessary attention”, he says.

Another more point, Larissa explains, is agility in care. “In situations of non -emergency, but that generate concern, as an animal that has tapped for a few days or that seems a bit apathetic, telemedicine allows a faster evaluation and guide. This can prevent a simple picture from worsening for lack of early intervention,” he explains.

Both experts agree that telemedicine is also effective for monitoring chronic or postoperative treatments.

“Drug adjustments, the evaluation of wound healing or monitoring diseases such as diabetes can be performed at a distance, reducing the need for frequent travel to the clinic and saving time and stress for the animal and tutor”, Larissa details.

For the initial projections, where it is necessary to determine the severity of a symptom and if the face to face is urgent, the telemedicine offers an efficient filter.

Disadvantages and limitations

Despite the benefits, experts list some important disadvantages in telemedicine. The most critical is the impossibility of performing a complete physical examination.

“Unlike human beings, animals cannot verbally express where they feel pain or what their accurate symptoms are. This means that vital information such as organs, cardiac and pulmonary ausultation with stethoscope, mucous membrane evaluation (gums, for example), verification of the temperature and observation of the thin signal that only a trained eye and veterinarians can detect, many diagnosis depend on these details”, say the regal.

Another disadvantage is the limitation of emergency cases or acute paintings.

“If an animal has a serious vomiting, breathing difficulties or has been a trauma, telemedicine is not the right tool. These situations require immediate intervention, complementary exams (such as radiographs and ultrasound) and often hospitalization or surgery. The attempt to resolve a distance can delay a vital treatment,” he explains.

According to Paim, the reliability of the information transmitted by the tutor can also be a barrier. Although well intentioned, the tutors may not have technical knowledge to carefully describe the symptoms or not notice details that would be crucial for the diagnosis. The quality of the image and sound during the call can also stop the evaluation.

What is ideal? Balance

Pets Telemedicine is a precious tool that expands the possibilities of care. It offers comfort and agility for certain situations, but cannot and must not replace the face to face, especially in cases that require detailed physical examination or immediate intervention.

Paim and Larissa say that the ideal is for tutor and veterinarians to use telemedicine in a complementary way, looking for the balance between technological innovation and the importance of direct contact to guarantee the health and well -being of animals.
