Thanks to the Science of Fear project, we now know which horror movies are blood-curdling and scary.

How do you know which movie terrifies audiences? Turns out, there’s a really simple, objective way to measure impressions.

For the study, 50 people were selected who watched 100 hours of the highest rated horror movies on IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Reddit. During the experiments, each subject’s pulse was monitored. After that, a list of the 35 scariest horror movies was compiled, during which people’s hearts beat the most. Here are some of the top 10.

1st place: “Sinister”
