Strawberry of Love hurt your teeth? The dentist warns the risks of fractures

Sweet can be a real villain for those who have facets, mats, prostheses or restorations

The fever on social networks and the success of sales in Brazil, “Strawberry of Love”, a sweet covered by a rigorous cone of caramelized sugar, has viralized in the last few days – not only for the taste, but also by a sequence of videos of teeth to break, losing prostheses or crossing real problems after a bad bite.

Dr. Diana Fernandes surgeon, explains that, despite the charm and visual taste, the “strawberry of love” can be a real villain for those who have facets, toothpaste lenses, prostheses or restorations. “The sugar crust requires a very large bite force, and this can easily cause fractures or detachment of aesthetic and functional smile structures,” he warns.

In addition to the risk of violation, frequent consumption or without adequate hygiene can also encourage the development of cavities and halitosis.

“Sugar equipment caramelized to the teeth and creates a perfect environment for the proliferation of bacteria. If the brushing is not performed correctly after consumption, the damage can go beyond aesthetics,” says the dentist.

For those who do not want to give up the dessert, the dentist recommends some precautions: “Avoid biting the front teeth. The ideal is to cut the candies into smaller pieces, break the cone first and chew with caution. And of course: hydrated with water and whisk later.”

But if the worst happens and a tooth breaks, dental care must be immediate. “Keep the fragment of saline or milk solution, avoid using the affected side and going to the dentist as soon as possible. The service is faster, the greater the chances of avoiding the greatest damage,” he says.
